The town of Ladismith lies at the foot of the Klein Swartberg mountain. The majestic split peak is known as Towerkop. The approach to this Western Cape town during the cold winter months oftens meets the traveller with snow-peaked mountains. Ladismith was named after the Spanish wife of Sir Harry Smith, who was the governer of the Cape Colony in the mid 19th Century.
